Rufus Not Detecting Usb
Here's the situation.-Downloaded Win XP Black edition (yes i kno it's pirated)-in teh redme file, it says to download rufus to make a bootable usb,-I prefer UNetBootin, but I followed it anyways.-Next thing I know, NO usb's won't be detected in My Computer.-ONLY usb's or hard drives that has NOT been used by Rufus can be accessed manually, (typing in drive letter: in address bar)-Usb's that has gone through Rufus, but canceled, CAN be detected, but CAN NOT be accessed.-Usb's that has gone through Rufus and has finished, It is VIRTUALLY GONE. No detection, no access.I have two usb's and 1 Hard drive. The 2 usb's have been the victim of Rufus.Rufus was used on Windows 8.1?Have tried on Ubuntu, No detection to victimized USB's.HALP!How do I reover 'dem USB's!-SanDisk Cruzer Blade 32Gb - Victim - task canceled on Rufus-SanDisk Cruzer Orbit 16Gb - Victim - task finished on Rufus-Touro Hard Drive 1Tb.
So I just put together my system, GA-Z170X-Gaming 7, 6700k, 32gb G.Skill Ripjaws 2800 and Samsung 950 pro. I updated the bios to F20 before doing anything. After that I disabled CSM so that I could install Windows 10 in UEFI mode on my 950 pro. Neither the 950 pro or my USB Windows 10 install stick are being detected, if I enable CSM and turn storage boot option to legacy then they both show up. The USB was formatted with Rufus to GPT in order to do the UEFI install. Why aren't my USB stick and 950 pro being detected when CSM is disabled?
I've been scouring Google and I can't figure this out. Click to expand.Leave CSM (Compatibility Support Module) enabled, there is no harm and really no disadvantage in doing so as it is only used if required. You can boot purely with UEFI mode set with CSM enabled. For the USB stick, I believe you can boot off it in UEFI mode even it isn't set as GPT.
As the author of Rufus, I can tell you exactly what happened. First of all, Rufus didn't damage your USB drive. It only removed the letter Windows assigned it, which it needs to do to be able to repartition and format it, and since you cancelled that operation, the drive letter was not assigned back. Rufus Damaged my USB. Windows can not detect USB. Rufus, winformat, rmprepusb, OR any software CANNOT DAMAGE USB DRIVES, but what they can do is to force your usb drive to the limit (rufus in particular do that when you let it test for bad blocks), and if your hardware is poor. Guess what (usually cheap = poor). Windows 10 bootable USB not detected in BIOS (Samsung Laptop) Thread starter ivalexander13; Start date Jan 17, 2018; Tags. I downloaded a 32-bit Windows 10 ISO and made a bootable USB drive using Rufus (I tried with NTFS and FAT32, but only as MBR). The first time I booted the laptop on that USB, I got stuck in 'Copying Windows Files' at 0%.
It works a little bit differently for USB sticks, or FAT32 (not sure which). Setting up a bootable UEFI stick is easy, you just format in FAT32, and copy the files over from the Windows installation media (such as a mounted ISO). You don't need to bother about playing around with RUFUS etc anymore, since UEFI couldn't be simpler. If you format the stick now it will remain in GPT mode, so either way it should work for you.

Click to expand.Really? I have a Asrock Z77 board and boot UEFI with CSM enabled, using the method I said above. If I press F11 to select boot device before a fresh install, I simply have to scroll down the list to the UEFI option for USB boot. It then boots off the GPT or MBR flash drive with the files copied onto it (just copied, nothing else set).
Same goes for other motherboards I've tried, so interesting it is different for you. Maybe it's a peculiarity with the X79 platform.Basically CSM is meant to be a fallback option if UEFI isn't supported by the device. This is why you can have CSM enabled and boot UEFI.
At least, that has always worked for me.Computer is most definitely UEFI. All my drives are GPT, I install off the UEFI set USB, and I see the system Asrock logo until Windows is load (as your do in UEFI mode).
